Effective leaders evolve through
different passages from a leader of self at the most basic level to a leader of
the business
The Leadership Pipeline Concept:
•Leader of Self - At the most basic
level are employees who are individual
contributors, who do not have anyone reporting to them. This person only need
to focus on his own deliverables.
•Passage 1: Leader of Others – this is a
first line manager who manages a team of individual contributors. He is
accountable for his own deliverables and deliverables of his direct
reports/team.
•Passage 2: Leader of Leaders – This
person is responsible for Phase 1 leaders and is accountable for his own
deliverables, those of his direct reports and their teams.
•Passage 3: Functional Leader is
responsible for a particular function e.g
Finance Division or Sales Division. He is accountable for the developing that
specific functional excellence.
•Passage 4: Business Leader – is
responsible for the strategy and outcome of the total business and the team of
functional leaders.
